Guest Speakers

We are proud to announce that the three Conference Guest Speakers have confirmed their participation.

The first day of the Conference (November 6th) being under the theme of "Right to Health", Ms Helena Nygren Krug, Health and Human Rights Adviser at the World Health Organization, will give a keynote speech on "The Right to Health, the UN Convention on Disabilities and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities". On day 2, devoted to "Resources", Ms Diane Richler, president, Inclusion International, will talk on "Policies and Resources: A World Perspective". The third day, before the closing ceremony, Ms Sheikha Hissa Al Thani, UN Special Rapporteur on Disability, will close the day devoted to "Road Maps" with a presentation on "Seizing the Moment :Taking Advantage of the UN Convention on Disabilities to Foster Change".

An International Forum

Representatives of at least eight international organisations related to intellectual disabilities will attend the Bangkok Conference. Among them, L’Arche International, the Association internationale de recherche sur le handicap mental, Down Syndrome International, Handicap International, Inclusion International, the International Association for Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability (IASSID), Mental Disability Rights International, as well as the World Psychiatric Association (section on Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability). A number of national and local organisations will also be present.

Resource Persons

Meet and exchange with participants at the Conference who are acknowledged as experts in your field of interest and/or expertise. To facilitate contacts, those persons will be identified by a special sign on their name badge. Should you be interested in acting as a such resource person at the conference, please contact the Conference Secretariat.

Posters

Posters will be on display the whole day of November 7th. Authors will be present from 15:30 to 17:30, thus allowing for an opportunity to share with them your experience about “Innovative practices” and “Researches”. Among the topics covered by these Posters, one can find: use of information technology in the fields of intervention, management and communication; self advocacy; assessment of vocational preferences in persons with intellectual disabilities; experiences in community-based rehabilitation; quality of life in adults with intellectual disabilities; innovative, low-cost strategies to develop services or to promote inclusion; access to health care; inclusive education; measurement tools; training of professionals; stigma; collaborations between universities and rehabilitation programmes.
